IT Industries laying off employees

You are just getting into office and see many of your colleagues coming out. You thought it is a fire drill?!
Think again -- they might be the people just thrown out of the office...

IT Industries in these turbulent times are taking steps which are really painful to its employees and their families.

Right from the big guns of the industry to the ones that were just making a mark, everyone just everyone seems to find only one solution to the problem of financial crunch in their company-- firing its employees....

Projects not flowing in, bench strength growing everyday, overhead costs increasing and the only way to keep going is to resort to what everyone else is.

If you are a part of the industry and buzz is and buzz is around that your company board has just met in a conference room, then signs are that something terrible will happen in just next two days.

Next two days!!! you might exclaim, but when you and your managers are still unaware, the HR team is working hard and making a hitlist in their rooms!!

And then the day comes when the HR just comes to your desk and says -"Take this letter and go to the ground floor"
You are ready for this and you being a polite employee of company you have loved, say -"Alright!! Let me just shut down the system" and just extend your hand to switch off the system.
The HR holds your hand and asks you to just make a move to the ground floor where your termination letter is waiting, "Don't worry we will take care of your system".

Has there been such a scene in your office...not yet, then soon there will be one, be ready for it!!
After everyone in the list is thrown out the V.P. comes out says
"With a heavy heart I would have to say this, due to economic crunch in the US and UK where we do most of our business, we had to take a hard decision of laying off people who have been the non performers in the company. There has been no other consideration than this. This is a time when rumors will be spread, please we averse to questions from media. Please continue to perform the good work you have always done so that we can get back to the track again, let the exercise that was done today not affect your spirits or your deliverables!!!"

This speech doesn't mean everything now will cool down, this is a sign that there will be more of this kinds of exercises if you are still ignorant of this fact...

So how do you counter attack the HR. There are certain points you need to keep in view

1. Do as many certifications as possible, show off your certificates to all your manager, especially if you are on bench.

2. If your organization conducts any events for employees, jump in and show them your enthusiasm, else create some event which would bring together and make people recognize your effort.

3. Give trainings on something you are good at, be a member of the software engineering group and create internal projects, which could indeed generate revenue.

4. Innovation is the key, come up with strategies which could make your customer more happy
Remember the old saying "If you cannot add a feather to cap at least try not to remove one"
Try to improve the CSI(Customer Satisfaction Index) by different innovative approaches.

5.If you are in project then remember, it is your responsibility to make customer feel, that if it is not this team then no one else can do the task, make the customer feel that and he will continue business with you...and the results are quite obvious.

6.Freshers, Trainees get all the knowledge you can from your seniors on the domain, technology, process and try to practice everything rigorously and religiously, so much so that your employer will be sure you will be able to manage in case some senior is fired..

7.Create an impression that you can handle critical situations, be friendly with all the team members and make your manager feel your decision will always be right.

Here end the hints which will still keep you going, good news is that not all projects have dried up so you have to work hard to get those projects to your company.
